Even from Geneva, at the far Western end of Switzerland, you can visit almost every place in this country in a day trip, if you start early. The first train leaves Geneva at 4.56 am. From 6.10, trains run every 30 minutes until night. The last train arrives back in Geneva at 1am. Swiss trains must not be booked ahead and you can hop on/off the train as many times as you like. Swiss trains in gerneral and mountain railways in particular are expensive. Check all the railpasses, may be you find a solution suitable to you: If you just want to go into the high mountains from Geneva,ghd straightener, Mont Blanc (France) or Kleinmatterhorn (Switzerland) may be easier to reach: 4 I want to try that. It will be colder in winter, but if the weather is fine, the feeling to be in the middle of the high mountains, on the top of the longest Glacier of Europe (Aletsch Glacier) is unforgettable. It’s years since I took the train from Interlaken up to the Jungfraujoch. We started pretty early in the morning, and had to change trains a few times. It will take a good part of the day from Interlaken, much more if you are really distant from it such as Geneva. One of the pleasures of doing this in the summer is that there is snow and you can ski up there if desired, or ride a dog sled. Of course there should be snow higher up in the Alps anywhere in January. I can see little advantage for doing this in the middle of winter. It’s very expensive, why not visit some place much closer giving you almost a full day in the mountains instead of spending a good part of your time only riding trains to do the scenic part,mbt anti shoes, and the last part up there isn’t scenic as you are within a tunnel in the mountain all the way,chi flat iron, with a stop at one of the viewing windows part way up the north face of the Eiger.||| |

Yes, definitely. If you want to go there ( highest altitude train in Europe) then do it. As others have said, the train journey along the way is spectacular and you can get anywhere in Switz and back in a day with their excellend rail systems.
Yes, you can get on and off trains along the way – just check the timetable first ( use the site from #2) to be sure you won’t be stranded. Personally, I am not so impressed with Interlaken. (Commercial tourism) Bern is worth a short stop if you are interested in it as the capital of Switz – it’s a short walk from the central train station to the old centre of the town – has a great clock tower, similar to the one in Prague. What I do like are the little alpine towns on the way -if it is a clear day, the view towards the alps from Lautterbrunnen will be spectacular. Nice little cafe’s there as well. From where you catch the final train for that haul up and inside the mountain, there are fantastic view, and walks in several directions. ( so long as you have the correct cold weather clothes and boots)
Enjoy!

I shall be in Geneva from the 7th of January to the 12th, I would like to visit Jungfrauloch as a day trip, however i would appreciate if anyone has done this while staying in Geneva. As i understand it from the Jungfrauloch website, Coming from Geneva you must change trains at Bern, then onto Interlaken!
Is it possible to visit the area in only one day, Also can you hop on/off the train as it stops at each village?
I would really like to see as much of the swiss countryside as possible, but i feel as if am being restricted to day trips by staying in geneva.
Thanks|||

just a detail but nevertheless very important: it’s jungfrauJoch, not jungfrauLoch.
the english translation to "jungfrauLoch" is "virgin’s hole".|||
